Elliptical Machine Vs
Treadmill
There is a difference between an elliptical machine and a treadmill, as you probably know.
What is important is that you need to find the best exercise machine that is best suited for you and your body.
So, let’s check out the differences between an elliptical machine vs Treadmill to see which would be
the best choice for you.
Elliptical Machines
Elliptical machines may also be known as cross trainers. An elliptical machine is created to
help you get cardiovascular and aerobic exercises just as you would when you walk, jog or run.
However, with walking, running or jogging you can damage your joints, and elliptical machines
are created to reduce the pressure on your joints. This can help you lessen the effects of impact injuries.
You choose how much resistance is on your elliptical trainer from a light exercise to moderate to a higher
exercise.
Most elliptical machines work the lower and upper body with a top part for your arms. This
motion reminds people of skiing, as you would be sliding your legs and arms, as you would be if you were
skiing. Some, however, do not come with the upper arm feature.
This is typically not an exercise machine that is used to build muscle, but to increase your
heartbeat and create a great cardiovascular exercise for you. There are many different types of elliptical
machines with a variety of features to choose from. Some are quite standard without the upper arm parts, and
some have the upper arm parts. Some have digital screens that can monitor your distance, speed and time of
workouts.
Elliptical machines provide a non-impact workout that can be perfect for people with past
injuries or ailments, such as joint problems, overweight or obese, and those who can’t endure a
treadmill.
Treadmills
Since your feet and hands are always on the parts of an elliptical machine, it is a non-impact
workout. However, a treadmill offers a high impact workout since it is nearly the same as walking, jogging or
running. Your feet lift up off of the machine and hit it again and again.
This can be great for those training hard to stay in great shape, prepare for a marathon, for
athletes, and the like. There are manual treadmills that use the motion of your feet pushing on the belt to
keep it going. There are also treadmills that are automatic. With these you do not have to operate it
manually; the belt will simply set the pace for you.
You can use treadmills to help your cardiovascular and strength training workouts. There are
some that you can create an angle upwards to simulate walking, jogging and/or running uphill. Some have a
feature that will count your steps, your distance, amount of calories burned, and more.
So, whether you choose a treadmill or an elliptical machine just be sure to consider each model
before making your purchase. Only you know which is the best type of machine is for you and your health. If
you have any illnesses or ailments you may be better off going with an elliptical machine. If you are
preparing for a marathon or something of the like you might be better of with a high-class
treadmill.
